A younger Black man, named Dan, sitting at his desk working on a laptop

Dan had felt stress and anxiety before, but hadn’t ever sought out mental health care. He didn’t see it as a fit for him, citing the social stigma against therapy he felt as a black man.

Through Inclusive Health, he was able to reframe getting care as an investment in himself–which made seeking help feel like a strength, not a weakness. This shift came at a key time: during a difficult life transition, Inclusive health helped Dan find a therapist, which he says was “life changing.” As a result of the support he got, Dan was able to break his cycle of being anxiety-driven as he was making his career transition. Dan is now on a “different journey,” and preaches the virtue of seeking mental health support to other black men.

Justin had always had a reactive approach to his health, addressing concerns as they arose, but otherwise not thinking much about it.

Through Inclusive Health, he realized that as a black man in his 40s with a family history of hypertension, he was more likely to experience certain disease conditions 5-10 years earlier than the general population. Armed with these insights, Justin asked his physician to tailor medical guidance to his lifestyle and culture. He has also activated his community: he now regularly meets up with his friends to establish a consistent fitness routine. These changes have helped Justin feel like he’s in the driver’s seat of his health.
